Interior Demolition for Remodeling

Interior demolition is often the first construction phase of a remodel. The goal is to remove the finishes and components included in the project scope while protecting areas that will remain. Scope varies by project and is defined before work begins.

Most of this work happens as the first phase of a bathroom remodel or a shower remodel.

Bathroom Demolition

Bathroom demolition is usually preparation for a full bathroom remodel, a shower rebuild, a tub-to-shower conversion, new tile or a flooring replacement. Depending on the project, that can include old tile, tub or shower finishes, the vanity, flooring, drywall or backer within the remodeling scope, and existing fixtures where removal is included in the agreed scope. Fixture, plumbing and electrical conditions are reviewed as part of the project scope, and licensed trade work is coordinated where required.

Tile & Flooring Removal

Existing tile and flooring can be removed as part of preparing a space for new flooring, tile or remodeling work. After removal, the underlying surface is evaluated so the next phase can be planned around the actual substrate condition. Materials may include tile, carpet, laminate, vinyl or other existing finish flooring within the project scope. Residual setting materials or adhesives are evaluated and prepared using methods appropriate to the existing material and the new flooring or tile assembly.

Shower & Tile Demolition

For shower rebuilds, existing tile and related finish layers may need to be removed to access the shower assembly beneath them. Once the area is opened, the substrate and framing conditions can be evaluated before the new waterproofing and tile work begins.

Once the area is open, the new assembly is detailed as part of shower waterproofing and shower remodeling.

Selective Interior Demolition

Many remodeling projects require only part of a room to be removed. Selective demolition focuses on the materials included in the renovation scope while protecting adjacent walls, floors, cabinets and finishes that are intended to remain — for example removing an old tiled shower while the rest of the bathroom stays, pulling flooring while adjacent rooms are protected, or removing a fireplace surround before a new tile installation.

A surround removed ahead of new tile is often part of a fireplace tile project.

Non-Structural Interior Removal

Where the remodeling scope includes removal of a non-structural interior partition or finish assembly, the existing conditions are reviewed before demolition begins. Wall-removal scope depends on the existing construction and whether structural, electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems are involved. Where structural evaluation or permitting is required, that is determined before any removal takes place.

Dust Control & Site Protection

Protection goes down before tools come out: travel paths and finishes outside the work area are covered, containment is set at appropriate openings, and tools and materials are kept within the work zone. Demolition debris is managed as the work progresses and the area is cleaned up at the end of the day. No residential demolition is dust-free, but these are practical measures to help contain demolition dust and debris.

Demolition Debris & Haul-Away

Demolition debris generated by the agreed project scope is loaded out and removed as part of the job, so the space can move into the preparation and rebuilding phase rather than sitting behind a pile in the driveway. This is part of a construction scope, not a standalone junk-hauling or cleanout service.

From Demolition to Rebuilding

Because BV Construction also handles tile, flooring, shower and bathroom remodeling, demolition can be planned around the work that comes next. Opening the space is not the end of the project — it provides access to evaluate the substrate and prepare for the new installation.

What Demolition Can Reveal

Removing old finishes can expose conditions that were not visible during the initial estimate, such as damaged substrate, previous installation methods or areas that need additional preparation before rebuilding. If newly exposed conditions affect the planned work, we review them with the homeowner and define any scope changes before continuing.
