Radiant floor heating can be incorporated beneath tile during a bathroom remodel, a tile floor replacement or a new tile installation. Electric heating cable or mat systems are installed before the finished tile so warmth is distributed through the tiled floor where the system is designed to operate. In practice this is planned as part of a larger flooring, bathroom or tile project rather than as a standalone add-on.
Bathrooms are a common place to add radiant floor heat because tile surfaces are frequently used barefoot. The heating layout is planned around permanent fixtures and according to the requirements of the specific heating system, with coverage concentrated in appropriate walkable areas.

We work with electric radiant systems designed for installation beneath tile — heating cable, heating mats and floor heating membranes that hold the heating element in place under the finished surface. This type of electric heated tile floor is primarily a comfort upgrade for individual rooms rather than automatically a replacement for the home's primary heating system.
Tile is commonly paired with electric radiant floor heating because heat transfers through the finished tile surface. The complete assembly still depends on proper subfloor preparation, the selected heating system, setting materials and tile installation. Bathrooms are the most common application, and the same approach applies to kitchens, entries and other tiled residential spaces.

Heating cable or mats are laid out according to the requirements of the selected system before they are covered by the appropriate tile assembly. Systems differ, so spacing and installation method follow the specific manufacturer's instructions rather than a single fixed rule.
A heated tile floor is still a tile assembly, so the condition of the substrate matters. Before the heating system and tile are installed, the floor is evaluated and prepared for the selected assembly.
Floor removal and preparation are handled with the rest of the flooring installation scope, and the finished surface is set by the same crew that handles our tile work.
The floor sensor and heating-system layout are coordinated during installation, with the sensor positioned within the heating layout and the thermostat located where the system and room allow. Control setup and programming are completed where they are part of the installed system. Electrical supply and final electrical connections are handled or coordinated as required for the specific project and applicable trade scope, including licensed electrical work where that is required.
The heating system is checked during installation according to the requirements of the selected system so problems can be identified before the assembly is covered. Checks are made as the work progresses — before installation, after the layout is set and once the tile assembly is complete — following what the specific system calls for.
